About our foodbank

Here is an introduction to our project.

Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area. We started in 2012 in response to the growing need that our churches saw in the local area. We originally started with 2 centres, we now have grown to 4 different centres open on 4 different days of the week, to cater for the needs in our community.

Food is donated by churches, schools, businesses and individuals in the local area. We have donation points in Asda and Sainsburys as well as local Co-op stores. This food is collected weekly by volunteers and all taken to our central warehouse, where it is sorted, dated and stored. Each of our 4 centres is restocked from our central warehouse on a weekly basis as needed.

Clients access foodbank vouchers via professionals such as schools, social services, police and other charities that we work closely with locally including debt advice and domestic abuse charities. These vouchers are then brought along to one of our 4 centres where we exchange it for a food parcel appropriate for the amount of people in the household, any dietary requirements and other needs such as pet food and toiletries.
